1.0 out of 5 stars Death by drumming overkill !, 25 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Transformation [Australian Import] (Audio CD)
Never before have I heard virtually every track on an album completely ruined by the drumming. He is either overplaying, trying to drown everyone else out, trying to show off, or the drums are far far far too forward in the mix. Only on the final track (my favourite - I wonder why !) does he exercise some restraint, but even then, in the last quarter of the track, he can't help going way over the top again - wow, it's so frustrating because but for the egomaniac stick man, this is a 5 star cd no question. Tal is a very special talent, just a pity my attention was ripped away from her tasteful playing by someone trying to play a zillion notes where 4 would suffice and I know it's jazz but it's just way OTT. Only my opinion but please re-issue the cd with the drum volume 50% further back in the mix.

Sounds a very realistic balance to me, if anything is to forward in the mix, it's the bass guitar.

Well, no surprise there seeing it's a cd by a virtuoso bassist !
I only wish the bass was further forward in order to drown out that show off on the drums :-)
