Who's A Scaredy Cat?,
This review is from: Scaredy Cat (Doctor Who) (Audio CD)
Doctor Who: Scaredy Cat.
Doctor: Eighth Doctor.
Companion(s): Charley, C'rizz.
Main enemy: Eunis Flood.
Main setting: Endarra.
Writer: Will Shindler.
Director: Nigel Fairs.
Release number: 75.
Format: 4 Episodes on 2 CDs.
Running time 75 minutes.
The Doctor - Paul McGann.
Charley Pollard - India Fisher.
C'rizz - Conrad Westmaas.
Eunis Flood - Michael Chance.
Arken - Arthur Bostrom.
Bronik - Spencer Mclaren.
Niah - Rosalind Blessed.
Eldrin - Ellis Pike.
Galayana - Linda Bartram.
1)Niah is played by Rosalind Blessed daughter of actor Brian Blessed.
2)The Doctor refers to the creation of the Daleks & the creation of the Cybermen, both of which he witnessed.
3)The Doctor carries jelly babies with him & says he is partial to the red ones, He believes that his current body heals faster than the previous one.
4)Endarra is the uninhabited twin world of the planet Caludaar.
5)Jelna wasps will not react harshly if only disturbed once, but if disturbed further will sting their foe to death.
6)Saravin is a substance used in chemical warfare.
7)The Tardis gardens were designed by the Doctor using Block Transfer Computation.
It means literally 'the soul of the vengeful' — those whose lives have been cut short early & died with empty hearts.
Millennia ago, the people of the planet Caludaar pledged never to set foot on their sister planet Endarra...
But what secrets does the planet hold? There are laws even the Doctor won't break while C'rizz learns that some tragedies can't be averted, Charley must decide who the enemy actually is.
For death walks on Endarra & this time she won't be denied...
Scaredy Cat has received a lot of scathing criticism over the years yet it's not quite as bad as some claim, Will Shindler script is a great idea thats hampered by the short 75 minute run time as is this had been 4 part episodes running for 120 minutes it could've given a more detailed backstory to the plot.
I feel Paul McGann, India Fisher & Conrad Westmaas lacked any interest in their acting in this adventure seemingly phoning in their performances, the only standout character for me was Michael Chance as Eunis Flood who at least delivers a decent menacing villian.
The plot is muddled & a little confusing & why this is a 2 CD release is beyond me as all 4 episodes could easily have fitted on to one disc.
Overall, Scaredy Cat is a uninspiring Doctor Who adventure featuring a bland plot & uninspiring performances throughout which is a pity as with a bit more attention to detail this could've been something quite special.

It's a 'by numbers' story really. Standard fare, I think it gets panned a lot because it's so short. As you say, no way does it justify two discs. I think people feel short-changed.

Amazing to think this entire story is as long as the first episode of year of the pig. It does have one feature that did crop up a bit too often around then for my liking, which was adult actor doing child voice. That always sounds far too obvious and false.

Yeah I know what you mean it's the same on Hollows Of Time, This could easily been fitted on one cd.
