This review is from: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GameCube) (Video Game)
The super Harvest Moon gaming series started back in the days of the SNES but hardly any of these fantastic games have actually made it to our U.K shores. So when I heard of this latest version for Gamecube I didn't dare get my hopes to high. But now we can rejoice as this fantastic game has been released here. The most noticeable change in this from all the others is the gorgeous 3-D graphics. These allow you to actually be one with nature as the leaves fall off trees and change colour as the seasons go on.Another difference from the other games is the loss of festivals but honestly, except for the horserace, I never really did care for these time wasters. This game also has a more structured plot to it (and by stuctured I mean it actually has an end to it). This time your dads old buddy Takakura comes to visit you one day to take you out to Forget-me-not valley (which is located just outside Mineral Town in fact) to show you the farm which he and your father founded together in the hopes that you will take on the task that your father never had time to finish before his death. So you start out as a young man who works his way through the thrity years of life and watch as he gets married, has a son and basically lives a wonderful life, hence the name.Of course with life come the harsh realities so you'll watch as people in the village age, learn and possibly die and this game in some ways can actually turn out to be quite emotional. On more than one occasion I've sat playing this game and been on the verge of tears as you look sadly at former village members grave. This time you get a choice between three lovely ladies of the village each with totally different personality traits.Of course then theres the actual farming which may sound boring but in fact its never been more addictive to milk a cow or water your fresh seeds.Heck if you get any free time you might be able to net more cash doing a spot fishing or socializing with the villagers.Another feature is the option to link up with Harvest Moon: Friends Of Mineral Town opening up new secrets and character profiles.Theres loads more but, to be perfectly honest, I couldn't describe this game fully in 10000 words so I shall end it there.Buy this game.It really will be 'A Wonderful Life'.
