This review is from: Red Dwarf: Series 2 [DVD] (DVD)
A fantastic DVD and one of the best ever TV sitcoms that I grew up with (along with "Blackadder"). I remember quoting and re-enacting scenes in the playground at school, and it is nice to see the early episodes which are rarely repeated on TV (in favour of the more professionally made later series - just as good but too reliant on the FX to be really classic). The focus is still on interplay between the characters rather than pure space opera, and includes cheesy Eighties' dance routines like "Tongue-Tied".
The DVD extras give an insight into the making of the series, and especially worth listening to is the commentary from the cast. This not only includes reminiscences about making the episodes but also covers the conditions the team "endured" while making them - including Norman Lovett's encounter with a beefy Rastafarian on Moss Side and the evolution of the bus which shuttled the crew between London and Manchester, where the early series were filmed before production moved to Shepperton.
Definitely a must for anyone who saw these the first time round and hasn't seen them since then!
