Hard Hitting Western,
By A Customer
This review is from: Flaming Star [VHS] (VHS Tape)Flaming Star is excellent, Elvis gives his best acting performance as Pacer, a half-breed Native American, torn between his mother's and father's people.
Elvis is tremendous in the role, originally intended for Brando, but eventually considered as being too old to play the young, violent and hot-tempered Pacer.
Still, I seriously doubt that anyone could have given a better performance than Elvis. This film is gripping, as Pacer slowly reaches boling point as the tension gradually builds between the settlers and uprising Kiowa Indians.
Elvis was an excelent actor and its a pity that his mid-sixties, flimsy pop films over-shadow the excellent films that he made.
A quick recommendation on the King's 10 best films are:
1 Flaming Star(1960)

Philip Roberts says:
It happened At the World's Fair & Blue Hawaii among Elvis's best films? Afraid not! It happened At the World's Fair vies with Franky & Johnny as Elvis's worst film. As an Elvis fan for 43 years, these are the only 2 Elvis films I cannot watch past about 15 minutes (The Chesey scene in Franky & Johnny is the point where I have to either throw up or turn off!) Blue Hawaii is no where near as bad, but is smaltsy to say the least!
All the best, Phil Roberts
