This review is from: The Search for Enlightenment: Introduction to Eighteenth-century French Writing (New Readings Series) (Paperback)I remember attending Leigh's lectures at university not so much for their content but their delivery: his manner of speaking (and of writing) can only be described as poetic.
As such it is a sheer pleasure to read John Leigh's works if only for the vocabulary one picks up along the way!
The reader will not walk away empty-handed from this book; perhaps it will give them a general background to eighteenth century French literature or it will simply provide them with a great deal of intellectual and aesthetic pleasure. In either case, it's well worth a read.
