A long lost classic,
This review is from: Pullin' Together (MP3 Download)
Of all the second division southern rock bands on Capricorn Records in the wake of the Allman Brothers Band and The Marshall Tucker Band, Grinderswitch were probably my favourite. This album came a little after their 'Pickin The Blues' heyday (John Peel show theme tune) and follows on from their true classic album 'Macon Tracks'. The songwriting is excellent especially on the opener 'Higher Ground' and atmospheric 'Open Road', and is firmly rooted in the southern rock genre. The main man is undoubtedly Dru Lombar who sadly passed away only recently - a wonderful singer and guitar player with a clean Les Paul tone and a soulful slide guitar technique. Unavailable for many years and only recently reissued, sounds dated in the nicest possible way and is extremely enjoyable.
