This review is from: Thieving Fear (Paperback)
I have read a vast number of Ramsey Campbell's books over the last twenty odd years and it is my belief that he is the nearest British equivalent to Stephen King.
I found this book chilling , unsettling and downright disturbing.
Campbell relies on building up the atmosphere in a disquieting way , which is a healthy antidote to pages of gratuitous gore which some writers and indeed readers seem to relish.
He has the gift of getting into the head of his characters and I found the characters of Hugh , Ellen and Charlotte to be particularly well realised.
A good choice for a cold winter evening by the fire....remember to lock the doors first, and keep the lights on!.
