Joan loves rock and roll,
This review is from: The Runaways [DVD] (DVD)
Can't say I was ever a big fan of the Runaways though I was aware of them back in the 70s, more by reputation than anything else as it often was in those days before youtube. So I approached this with interest.
Based on Cherie Curries autobiography, and with her and Joan Jett as producers it inevitably focuses on them (excellently payed by Kirsten Stewart and Dakota Fanning) with the other members of the band mostly reduced to bit part roles. It follows a fairly standard biopic story line, early days, success, excess, fall, and does lag a bit at points. But over all it entertaining and engaging, no doubt it doesn't tell the full story, but no 100 minute film could.
The music is of course crucial, and the soundtrack is excellent and good and loud, with the live scenes well handled. The 70s look is also brilliantly done.
All in all a very good rock'n'roll film.
