The Best Current Gen Console Strategy Game,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: XCOM Enemy Unknown (PS3) (Video Game)
I am a fan of the earlier XCOM games, mainly Terror From the Deep, and I do prefer my strategy games on console rather than computer. Just feels more comfortable to be on the big living room chair in front of the big TV I guess! I have RUSE too, and loved that, so I am totally target audience for this game. Now to my review...
As you would expect, this game looks far better than it's older family, and works very well with the PS3 joypad (some people dislike strategy games without a mouse). For any younger players, who enjoy a different experience to the usual COD and Battlefield, give XCOM a go. It's a turn-based (very old fashioned I know but give it a chance) strategy game where you recruit troops and control them on missions to rid the world of various forms of alien. You need to balance the books, you need to research new tech, and build new equipment for your soldiers.
The game becomes very involving after a short while- you genuinely become attached to your soldiers and feel disappointed when one that you have seen rank up from rookie to captain dies with honour...
Buy XCOM, support games like this, don't let consoles just become FPS and little else.
Oh and one last thing. The BBFC rated this game a 12. It is on the front of the box. PEGI (who are about to take over game age ratings) rated it an 18, as shown on the CD. This game has a little bit of gore- so far I have heard no swearing and there is no sex.
