Ceremony are one of the best hardcore bands around today, and this may someday be regarded as their classic. An absolute blast of an album, showcasing both their furious brand of hardcore (which is ever-changing - here, it's like Adolescents meets Infest meets Wire) and their capacity for experimentation, with the band delving into drone, surf, psychedelia, industrial and more.
From the slow-burning fury of "Sick", to the creepy psych-metal of "Into the Wayside Part II", to the confusion and utter brutality of "The Pathos" - all are fantastic. The simple and effective lyrics, dealing brilliantly with alienation, confusion, helplessness and anger in true hardcore style, are delivered with maximum force by Ross Farrar's terrifying roars and disembodied drones. On top of that, the musicianship is such that the eerie instrumentals hold up well, adding to the feel of the album.
If you're a hardcore punk fan, a hardcore purist looking for some modern hardcore you might like, a music lover looking for something angry and different, or just a pissed off person who likes loud music, then this is probably going to be for you.
