This review is from: Danny Volume 2 : The Revenant - Personal Jesus Edition (Paperback)
The second multi-faceted installment of the fables of The Jackson-Moore famly opens with Danny swooping back into the lives of the poor fools (and some new ones) from Book 1. There seems to be myth making here: Danny is presented throughout as, yes, the beast/angel of the different covers (i got the dog!),but also as something vampiric - Whereas in the first book Danny was at times presented as a victim There are also hints at a disease carrier, an abuse survivor (again) and details of what Danny gets up to when left to his own devises abroad. The sexual psychodramas continue, often mirroring the games played in Book 1 - you need to have your wits about you. Don't be duped into simply following a narrative about corrupt coppers and their dodgy deeds; although entertaining, noir-ish and relevant, there are more vague scraps of the family's past to decode. There's even some documentation...
The Quality of Chancery's writing is as compelling, original, dark and gripping as in the first book, all threads kept together nicely and with a plot that's just getting revved up. To keep up this quality of writing, defying the law of diminishing returns, is indeed a feat.
The same caveat applies to this book as the first though - if you've got a problem with reading a lot of man on man sex (not one sweaty thrust gratuitous) then stay at home, this party's not for you.
