Gorgeous sets, wonderful costumes, shame about the accents.,
This review is from: Marie Antoinette [DVD] (DVD)
I could just about cope with the infusion of New Romantic rock music throughout, but the myriad of different accents in this film irritated me beyond belief. Why did we have to have Austrians speaking with cut class English accents, page boys speaking with impeccable French accents, Madame Du Barry yelling in tones of Brooklyn, while Louis XV simply sounded as if he was doing a bad impression of John Wayne?? I found the only sane way to watch this film was with subtitles on and sound turned off, which is a shame as the delivery of the film including the acting wasn't bad at all.
