Fun times in Stillwater...,
This review is from: Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
You can't help but make comparisons between this game and the GTA series. It's just not possible. I bought this for a laugh, after playing it at a mate's house on the PS3 and really enojoying the first few minutes immensely. The first thing I noticed was that the physics of the game felt 'lighter' and less substantial, but I don't hold this against THQ, and I felt that it held its own in the genre. It is slightly easier in gunfights...
It's really fun. Whereas GTA4 seems to have gone for a more serious, gritty tone (a departure from the comical days of GTA 1 + 2), Saints Row 2 is much more like those original GTAs, but with far more sub-missions and optional content. It shouldn't be so much fun to run people over...
The MTV gangster-rap vibe is a little childish. It's like some of these characters just stepped out of a 50 cent record or something, and the plot is completely ludicrous, as well as incredibly cheesy at times. After playing console games and the odd PC game for years now (sue me), I'm getting sick of games trying to think of an excuse for the gameplay. I loved it when Unreal Tournament just said; KILL EACHOTHER FOR THE SAKE OF IT....and I love that this game is just about BLOWING STUFF UP and being a BIG CHEESY GANGSTER. It's fun times...
I tried the LIVE multi-player as well, as part fo my one month Free-Trial. I thought it was a bit whack personally. No offense.
