3.0 out of 5 stars Good first novel, well developed characters., 18 Mar 2009
This review is from: Jumping the Queue (Black Swan) (Paperback)
On the whole I really enjoyed this book. The characters were believable and easy to picture in your mind. In fact after reading the book I discovered that the story had been made into a TV drama and Shelia Hancock played the part of Matilda. This matched my idea of Matilda perfectly. My only critisim is that the last few chapters and the eventual outcome left me feeling quite low. A more bitter sweet conclusion would have given the story a more balanced ending.

I found this book whilst on holiday, and once I started I was pulled into the life of Matilda, who like Hugh, whom she was hiding had secrets of her own. The story kept you on tenderhooks to the end, and altough the eventual outcome was dark, I felt it fitted perfectly into the whole story of would she wouldn't she saga. I would highly recommend this book, for those of you who enjoy a dark and witty read.
