Still distorted sound,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Verdi Requiem - EMI Masters (Audio CD)
There are significant issues with the sound. Despite efforts to fix the distortion heard in the most powerful parts of the work it has not yielded much improvement. The sound is also still rather constricted which doesn't help either.
Moreover, I think Giulini's devout approach does not suit Verdi. Indeed I feel that this work is more secular than it is set out to be. Therefore, I prefer the more secular opproach of Reiner who probably felt the same, recognising at the same time that Verdi was an atheist.
Overall: This suffers from poor sonics and is too devout an approach to Verdi's operatic requiem.
Instead, for instance, buy the one with Mehta, Caballé, Domingo et al. It sounds so much better in every way.
