This review is from: Peter Gabriel 1 (Audio CD)
There are good songs on Peter Gabriel's first solo album, but they are almost invariably let down by the awful production. "Down the Dolce Vita", "Here Comes the Flood" and "Slowburn" are very strong pieces, hamstrung by booming, guitar heavy arrangements. Thankfully Peter found his feet and went on to produce - in "3", "4" and "Passion" - some genuinely splendid work.
When it comes to PG and Genesis I'm a completist - there are a few of us around. But this is not an album I'd recommend to anyone exploring the man's work for the first time. He is way better than this suggests.
