This review is from: The Unexpurgated Beaton Diaries (Paperback)
I love the Beaton diaries. He has a reputation for being waspish which indeed often he is (though he is often very very funny while being so), but it is his obvious sensitive side which makes these late diaries so touching and wonderful. The account of his meeting some of his elderly relatives who he had not seen in more then 30 years on a holiday in South America is incredibly moving. Also his observations on the aging Diana Cooper who he loved as a friend so dearly. I find with his diaries that once I start reading them I get lost from everything that is going on in my life and become engrossed in Cecil Beaton's.
