5.0 out of 5 stars 6 months from now..., 7 Oct. 2011
This review is from: FlashForward - The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
The show has an intriguing storyline. On October 6th 2009, the whole world "blacked out" for 137 seconds. Everyone fell to the floor unconscious at the same time, and many, such as those driving cars, or flying aircraft, died, because they had no control over what they were doing. During the blackout, almost everyone has a vision of themselves, a flashforward, six months in the future, on April 29th 2010. No one knows what caused the blackout, or whether the visions will actually come true. This raises some interesting questions and paradoxes.

For example, some people saw nothing during the blackout. This may mean they will be dead in 6 months time! One man saw that in 6 months, his actions will cause the death of a young woman. He commits suicide to change the future and save the woman. The show looks at different people affected by the blackout, as time marches on to April 29th. Will there be another blackout? What will happen on April 29th? I am hooked to this show because I really want the answers!

The show is a bit complicated because there are lots of story arcs and lots of main characters, who all intertwine as the series goes on. |Each eposode is usually preceeded with a 5 minute review to help you remember what has happened before! Here are some of the main characters in the show:

Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes):

An FBI agent who is married with a young daughter. A recovering alcoholic. He is the main protagonist of the show. He leads the investigation into the blackout, and has a large board, with clues pinned onto it, which are somehow all relevant to the plot. In his flashfowward, he is drunk, and being pursued by men in masks.

Olivia Benford (Sonya Walger):

Mark's wife, a surgeon. In her flashforward she sees herself with another man, Lloyd Simcoe, who she hasn't met yet. She wonders whether she should tell her husband about what she saw.

Demetri Noh (John Cho):

An FBI agent, a friend of Mark. He has no vision of the future, and later finds out that he will be murdered, shot by Mark's gun. Can he prevent this happening?

Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport):

An Englishman, who is working on a project involving quantum physics. He believes his experiment may have been responsible for the blackout. He has a son Dylan, who he has to look after when his mom dies during the blackout.

Simon Campos (Dominic Monaghan):

A brilliant Physicist, and partner of Llloyd. He lies about what he saw during the blackout, because he was concious at the time.

Aaron Stark (Brian O Byrne):

A friend of Mark, who is also an ex alcoholic. In his vision, he is in Afghanistan, with his daughter Tracy, who he believed to be dead. Is she really alive somewhere?

There are many more characters that feature in the show, and they weave in and out of one anothers stories. As you watch, you really are curious how each person's story will turn out and whether they can change the future.
