good but not excellent,
This review is from: Last Days (Paperback)
Last Days I can hardly compare to the Ritual (which was a good book too but with a beaten plot). Last Days has much more intricate plot and a story to tell. It is gory and in places offputting, but it is a book about a horrific cult. I must admit the investigation of the filmmakers in the book was more interesting than when all the stops were pulled and the nature of the otherworldy beings and purpose of the murders at Blue Oak mine were clarified. However it is still an unputdownable book and it keeps fuelling your imagination with haunting images, as well as stresses once more than there is no being capable of worse atrocities than a human being. With such books, you want it to be made into a movie but then think twice and realize the movie will never keep up to the level of suspense and interest than the book.
I did find one funny detail in the book - mention of Stalin and how it has been postponed till 1st of July, the communication of fact to him that the Nazis have started attack on Soviet territories. It has been declared to the people on 22nd of June that War has started, although indeed it seems to be true that Stalin was shocked that Hitler broke supposed pact of non-assault.
