It was truly bad,
This review is from: The Matrix Reloaded (2 Disc Edition) [DVD] (DVD)The first film (whilst not great) was passable. The discovery of the Matrix, a small band of fighters against the Big Bad and cutting edge FX.
Now we get more more of the same, but with added tedium and a community of refugees from the Matrix.
The whole thing feels like a computer game:
a) Cut Scene to explain background and first mission
Take the big fight. Neo fighting loads of the same guy, Neo gets fed up and flies away. Why the hell not just fly away immediately???
And whoever was responsible for the Rave/Love scene wants a bullet. Straight out of a Channel 5 Friday night "Erotic Thriller".
As for a "BIG TWIST", hardly a shock was it?
The biggest flaw though is the move from the small band of warriors up against it all in Matrix to the entire community in Reloaded. It's like the shift in "Star Wars" after the escape from the Death Star and the rebel forces are introduced. Suddenly the personal attachment with the characters is gone when you discover they are not as alone in their war as you thought. You no longer feel with them, but rather one of those left behind, not fighting on the frontline. This is particularly evident with Morpheus as he becomes almost a foot soldier in Reloaded compared to the enigmatic and heroic leader in Matrix.
I'm hoping for good things from the next one. A bit more judicious editing, more concentration on characters and less fight/explain/fight linearity and they might just make it.
