a stunning blend of guitar sounds and electronica,
This review is from: Flares (Audio CD)
in my opinion this is perhaps thee best (if least known) release of 2005. fans of mogwai, mum, boards of canada, biosphere, aarktica, early sigur ros and lesser known ambient acts from canada and the USA such as can be found on 'kranky records' will LOVE THIS ALBUM.
In fact I would go as far as say this album is in my top 10 of all time.
It really is hard to put into words the beauty of this recording. At times the sounds just wash over you. At first listen I fell asleep so peacefully until the heavy electronica kicked in on zoboine part 3, which made me jump out of my slumber.
track 1 - "Jeka" starts off with the most wonderful sounds almost like being under water with a mirriad sea creatures. in the distance you hear delayed guitar and a french conversation between a man and a woman, altho it may be Italian (the band are from Genoa). In fact the background voice samples remind me slightly of Jean Michel Jarre's Zoolook album.
elements of Mogwai (Young Team era), Iceland's Mum and early Sigur Ros come into play on "Spetsnaz/Paul Leni" as we treated to the first live drums on the album, followed by some waves of keyboard/guitar before some kick ass electronica takes over for a few seconds. STUNNING! BEAUTIFUL! UPLIFTING!
I really would like to write about every track but I have to get back to work. All I can say is BUY THIS! YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED!
