Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Like another reviewer I received this camera through Amazon Vine.
I had an initial delay in receiving this camera and have been using it for over a month now.
I would class myself as a bit of a gadget man, one who doesn't like instructions and just tests things out straight out of the box. Most of the time I can perform the basics and when I want to get a little more technical I will then get the instructions out.
To start off I would say the size and weight is pretty much like holding a slightly oversized can of coke in your hand. It has good weight and solid feel to it.
I have owned DSLR and micro ¾ cameras as well as digital camcorders. I was very excited about the potential of having a camera in a camcorder as opposed to the other way round.
To start, I was very impressed with the videos I have shot and they are of a very high quality, which you would expect. A couple of times when filming a close up moving object It has lost focus momentarily, but the camcorder has been quick to correct itself. It is quick to focus when using the digital zoom during filming. Low light situations are not a problem either with clear and colourful shots still produced.
It comes with a powerful LED light that makes shooting with no other light no problem at all and also features "NIGHT VISION" for anyone who may want to sneak around in the dark and film without the LED giving you away. I would imagine this is good for catching nature at night.
As far as the camera is concerned it didn't quite live up to my expectations and while it did produce some nice results, my camera produces better results.
Depending on your take on things and your planned use, in so far as whether you intend this to be just a high end camcorder with the occasional camera shot then this is an excellent choice. If you are expecting photos to be as good as a DSLR and only plan on carrying this around so you don't need to carry both contraptions around it will not meet your expectations.
In short this camcorder is excellent at being a camcorder, but sadly the camera part just didn't live up to my expectations and I would still need to carry my camera with me. I personally don't want to do that and I would lean towards a high end camera with filming abilities.
Anyone who just wants to film will not be disappointed.
4 Stars seems about right.

Amazon Customer says:
You will make a mistake using any DSLR for video - without a heavy tripod shooting a video with DSLR is not possible, too much shaking.
This camcorder is just perfect for video, you may use it without tripod - it is a such relief not using a tripod for long zoom video.

I love New York says:
I totally agree with you, i was just trying to highlight that unless you want to be carrying both a camera and camcorder i would sacrifice the camcorder, i take far more photos. A fine camcorder no doubt i was just a little let down with the the quality of the photos i took after reading the blurb regarding the "camera" side of things.

This is helpful. Very few reviews actually comment on whether one needs a DSLR and a camcorder or whether one or the other will do both jobs. This is one of the few that does and explains the issues clearly.
