i was dubious about this having read a selection of reviews, but chose a uk company to buy from so it could be returned easily in the event it was a dud. ok, you are paying a bit more for the benefit of that, but are you really going to send a faulty one all the way back to hong kong or china? it arrived very quickly and yes, the instructions are rubbish, but a bit of patience and trial and error and you'll sort it out in no time (if this technical idiot can do it, anyone can!).
first off, get a CLASS 10 sd card to use in this. anything slower and it won't work properly (mine is an 8gb class 10). secondly, the battery fits fine in its compartment (some on here said theirs didn't), it bursts into life every time the car engine is turned on (if you keep it plugged into your vehicles cigarette lighter socket - the lead is very long, so no worries there) and it generally turns itself off when you turn off the ignition (you can also easily turn it on and off manually). i have mine set for 5 minute slots of record on the lowest resolution (after experimenting, the video quality seemed no different on any of the settings). however, overall the video quality is better than i expected for this price, but night shooting isn't good. the mini tripod suction mount the camera comes with is more than man enough for the job in hand and everything swivels and tightens as it should.
to review the clips from any journey, you can do it on the camera itself or remove the sd card and pop it into a card reader attached to your computer via a usb. from 'computer' select the right drive and the clips will be available to download into windows movie maker or similar.
in summary then, this nifty and small item will certainly be sufficient to capture the vital evidence in the event of a frontal mishap on the road, but you're not going to win any cinematic oscars with it. it feels flimsy and lightweight and is certainly low grade, but it does the job surprisingly well.
top tip - buy from the uk to be on the safe side in case of returns. i bought mine on amazon from ukdigitalbay and delivery speed was very impressive.
