Beggars and Choosers,
This review is from: Collected Hook Jaw (Spitfire Comics) (Paperback)
Great to see this again - however....Hook Jaw - without the blood??? This was my reaction to reading the classic without its colour pages - admittedly most of the original pages did not have colour, but the occasional splash page (bringing new meaning to the term) of colour did help distinguish between depth, shadow and blood (particularly in the oilrig storyline, where it could at times be an oil-slick or a blood-slick).
But its the only way that we'll get these 97 reprint pages these days (if you've tried getting them at comic fairs, you'll know what I mean - you might get copies of Action, but Hook Jaw was often cut the strip chosen to be excised from the issue with a pair of scissors by the original 1970s collectors), so well worth it. In the interplay of Sola and Mills, see the synergy that led to Old One Eye in 2000A.D.'s 'Flesh' within a year of these strips first publication...
