Terrific satire of the newspaper business - unmissable,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bilton (Hardcover)
There are many things I loved about this book. First, it's extremely funny, with a wonderful deadpan style. Second, it rips into the world of newspapers with fantastic relish, aiming well-directed barbs at various other aspects of contemporary life along the way. But above all it does this with an underlying warmth and humanity that keeps you above the tawdriness of the subject matter. The portrait of the eponymous Bilton is scrabrously funny, and somehow manages to be tender as well as brutal. The ending of the novel is among the most touching I have encountered in modern fiction. Hats off to Mr Martin - please write more.
