Could have been worse ... Could have been much better !!!,
This review is from: The Tree of Life [DVD] (DVD)
Deep Christian meanings aside I actually quite enjoyed this film after the first half an hour or so.
The evolution sequences whilst well filmed and spectacular in places bored me ... and I am yet to find a link with the main thread of the film so i must either be thick or very shallow.
The main storyline which was the development of the young child/teenager and his interaction with his family (mainly his father) I found to be very engaging. Beautifully filmed and acted it is not your regular film being more a fly on the wall experience and lacking any real dialogue as such. For me itr was a coming of age more for the father than the son and it was the son's regrets in later life that showed through rather than the other way so it was a sort of swapping of roles (i hope this isn't totally off the mark).
It's a film that everyone will have a different interpretation for and I can see how some people think it's a bit of a stinker as it's not that easy to engage in. For me it lacked something but as I am now getting slightly bored with the run of the mill type movies it was definitely a couple of hours well spent.
