I waited with great anticipaton for this release to hear Graham Parker back with the Rumour and on first listen was disapointed because the album does not rock as in days gone past. Further listens though reveal this album to be something of a grower. First track Snake Oil Capital Of The World brings back memories of Hey Lord Don't Ask Me Questions with it's reggae intro and biting lyric. There is country in the superb That Moon Was Low, comment on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars (Arlington's Busy) a great rocker in A Lie Get's Halfway Round The World where the Rumour and Parker really catch fire, the same can be said for Coathangers and the title track both very solid rockers. Some nice slowies feature as well (Long Emotinal Ride and Stop Cryin' About The Rain)there is a hint of jazz in Old Soul which is also very good. You won't get the in your face Parker and the Rumour of the past, they are all alot older but the songs are very good, Parker's voice is in great nick! and the backing band are not bad as well, i am thoroughly enjoying this disc which deserves to be heard.
