Doctor Who? Not for me,
This review is from: Doctor Who : Complete BBC Series 4 [DVD] (DVD)
The 'revamp' of Dr Who has been the biggest tv disappointment of the last few years. A once brilliant national institution that had clever, imaginative stories, genuine scares, atmosphere and charismatic lead actors has degenerated into a flashy, pop-culture spouting, juvenile embarrassment with none of the charm, wit or magic of the classic series. This fourth series is the worst of the lot, the stories range from confusing, to lame to just plain awful and the whole series is hampered by the atrocious Catherine Tate playing the most irritaitng companion ever. The over-rated David Tennant just cruises along on autopilot and does absolutely nothing with the role apart from acting like a geeky nerd. Fans of the classic series should steer well clear of this travesty - Dr Who ended in 1989, and this is just a fake.

Jamie Travis says:
You are talking utter rubbish! If this is so rubbish why does Doctor Who attract 6-10million people each episode when classic Doctor Who had an average of 4-6? Doctor Who is better than it has ever been and it will keep growing!
Are you sure you were watching Doctor Who and not Primeval?

I didn't realize there were so many people in the world who don't know what an opinion is...

Well, my opinion is this. Who ever wrote this review is wrong. There. I said it. I welcome your thoughts.

J. F. Marshall says:
The trouble is, fans of the classic series will *not* steer well clear of this travesty. Despite their conviction that "Dr Who ended in 1989, and this is just a fake", they continue to torture themselves by watching something they know they'll hate and despise and then demanding that the people who do like it accord their views their proper due respect.
They're the sort of person who continues to buy albums by bands they used to like after they've continued to develop and no longer do the same kind of music, and then get upset because they don't sound like they used to.
A fan of the classic series who also likes the new series

G. Donaldson says:
You pretty much echo my own views Mr Evans, although I'd say the show as a quality series really ended in 1981 with Tom Baker's departure. Most of the new series has indeed been dire but probably no worse than the Colin Baker or McCoy travesties or the utterly boring Davison era.

G. Donaldson says:
To J. McCloughlin: Each to their own I guess but your opinion is no more valid than Mr Evans'. Viewing figures are certainly no indication of quality and to suggest the new series is better than the best of Tom Baker is, to my mind, ludicrous.
...and I like Primeval much better than new Who (as do several other people I know).
