Love it or loathe it - there's no middle ground. I loved it.,

This review is from: The Dead Beat (Kindle Edition)
I bought this book as a paperback, now it's on my Kindle. Overkill? No, just an abiding fascination with the author's mastery of hard-bitten prose and crackling dialogue. It's a style that I'd assume will polarise opinion; I'd also assume the author wouldn't want it any other way. There's nothing 'safe' or even, for the vast majority of the readership, familiar here.
Cody james doesn't write to please the purists. Many traditional editors will shun a novel of this nature. Nothing is held back, no detail left unrevealed. It's raw, profane, in your face and I loved every word. Technically, there are diversions from the norm, but there's also a vivid demonstration of exactly why the difficult task of the First Person narrative works so well when it's done properly. As it does here.
A fabulously inventive writer with the capacity to see the world through an opaque lens, I don't expect everyone to enjoy this, but if it's your type of book, you'll love it. You'll treasure it, recommend it, return to it time and again. As I do.
