This review is from: Original Sin (the Works of Jonathan Edwards) (Paperback)
Edwards was a child prodigy and was one of the main characters in the first great awakening in in the 18th century. He was to all extents a genius and he gave himself to the ministry rather than take a secular job. The period that he lived in was the eclipse of the enlightenment movement that sneered and hated the doctrine of original sin as found in Genesis. 'Man', they believe was good at heart and was capable of good and that education was the way to bring the best out of man. Edwards wanted to show many that this was not the case and that however well dressed you took a man or woman and educated them, they where deep down not good but actually quite corrupt. Take away the dressings and the wound doth show itself. Its not spring lamb but just plain old tough mutton. Yes folks duped again !
The language here is not always easy to handle but its really worthwhile ploughing through it. This is a book of a life time and it must be read for the very same reason that Edwards argued for his day. In days of cynicism and doubt this stands to point out that, the reason society is as it is today is because mankind is broken. If you want a book that lays down the truth for Original Sin then this is it. Cant't be recommended enough
