This review is from: Speak Swahili, Dammit!: A tragic, funny African childhood (Kindle Edition)
Just adding my own few words of appreciation to the author. I love these tales of people growing up in faraway places and this story held my interest from start to finish.
His Mother sounds a remarkable lady, one of the tough generation who now I guess have largely disappeared.
I would love to know what happened to the family in subsequent years.
Two books on the same theme which I consider as good:
Peter Godwin - Mukiwa. Growing up in Rhodesia
Martin Booth - Gweilo, growing up in Hong Kong.
