Replacing after only a few weeks,
This review is from: Panasonic Lumix TZ7 Digital Camera - Black (10.1MP, 12x Optical Zoom) 3.0 inch LCD (Electronics)
I bought this camera on the strength of many good reviews and have to seriously wonder if I've got a faulty camera or if it's somehow different from those others used as the image quality is awful IMO.
This was intended to replace my Lumix FS7 - which took great quality pictures, really sharp and crisp most of the time. However, the FS7 got battered within a year of my active/demanding photography (Lense fitting loose and shutter not always opening). So decided on the TZ7 replacement as it had a bigger lense and more robust body and, I thought, the same image quality of my previous Lumix.
However having played around with it for a few weeks and really trying to love it I'm just very disappointed with the TZ7 - the quality of the images is nowhere near as good as the old camera. Generally the shots are hazy and disappointing (despite having used every quality boosting trick the camera has) though the files are bigger and more pixels. Most annoyingly of all they looking much worse than they do on the camera when you review the image. This lack of clarity creates obvious knock on problems as the pictures really don't stand up to zooming in on the PC. I do a lot of editing on the PC and with the old FS7 I was easy to recrop a small portion out of a picture and blow it up to a clear picture, doing this with TZ7 yeilds even noisier, grainy results.
In the interests of being fair I have had some really nice shots with this camera too (hence two stars). In particular it seems much sharper anytime it uses the flash - but in any natural light you have to work much harder to get good results, and I find myself deleting far more pictures than used to to find the good shots.
Overall though I'm so frustrated that I'm going to buy a new camera already - this was a costly mistake of a purchase.
