Did not activate during a fire,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am horrified by the Nest Protect.
I am a gadget freak, and was most impressed with this - it looks good, and the app is good, and was reassured this would be better than the under £10 smoke detectors i had - and luckily still left up.
Today after about 3 months of having the nest an iron melted and caught fire - i was in the kitchen at the time, and heard one, then two and all 4 of my old detectors go off - when i got to the iron smoke was bellowing out - yet the nest which was les than 6 ft away did not trigger. There was molten legal dripping through the itnong board and into a basket of clothing so i would say i was seconds away from a major fire. If i had relied on the nest i would never have known what was going on.
I am totally shocked by this - for around 4 mins the smoke was in the flat - so much in fact a smoke detector on the flow below went off when we started to ventilate flat.
I no longer trust these at all!

Mr. David Green says:
How did the molten metal not ignite the basket of washing? For a domestic iron to melt would require such a high temperature that I'm surprised it did not instantly ignite the clothing in the basket when it came into contact with it.

I have no idea David - i think it was so hot it just flash burnt as it fell through. The holes all had charing on the edge, but i suspect as there was fractions of a second touch time, not enough to ignite things not in direct contact which just 'evaporated' It's been taken away by Philips for investigation!
Interesting to see Nest protect sales have been halted - from what i hear mine was not the first not to activate.... although they are blaming the waving feature for them going off - but that would still mean they go red... customer services were pretty good in the end i have to say.
