Anna Campbell Masterpiece,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: My Reckless Surrender (Mass Market Paperback)
I love all of the Anna Campbell books & this is no exception-although it was a slow start and probably not as gripping as her other novels I was still captivated. Diana Carrick is virtually paid to seduce Lord Ashcroft & to get pregnant by him & in return she would be given the house where her father acted as bailiff. Lord Ashcroft is very reluctant at first but is intrigued by the enigmatic package of invitation but innocence from Diana & so gets lured to give in & take her on board. In their relationship there develops a bond & as a result he lets down his defences. What makes this storyline work is definately the chracterisation of Ashcroft. Although Diana appears as being a some what shallow person whio is ridden with guilt for seducing lord A. under false pretences its the interwoven feelings, expressions that develops from him that save this novel.
If only there were feeling "brutes" like this in the real world that though faced with adversity never give up & chase the heroine & do not take no for an answer. The story revolves around the meetings between these two & their encounters to further their experiences with one another. The motive which i will not give away seems a bit far fetched but still plausible. Diana does redeem herself towards the end by trying to hide the truth from Ashcroft & to not make him aware who was really behind the "con". This is definately worth a read.
