I first bought this album back around 1993 and it has been one that I still play regularly.
Sweet harmony was the big Beloved single and gives you a fairly good idea of their style, very mellow vocals, quite sublime and emotional lyrics, but music with a fantastic dance beat, loads of keyboards, in a style quite different from most other bands. If I had to compare the music I would say it is a bit like the Pet Shop Boys, but with Jon Marsh singing it is a very different music, more chilled out and 'groovy'.
'1000 years from today' is my favourite track. It is 'sung' almost at talking pace, but it is so catchy and has that special Beloved quality that makes a real impact on you and makes you want to play it again and again.
The rest of the album is on the whole very very good stuff. Tracks like 'OuterSpace girl' have strange sublime camp lyrics, and again there is a catchy beat that makes you want to sing along. All the songs tend to have a positive message in them.
Another great track is 'Rock to the Rythmn of love', with its perculiar keyboard sounds, it starts out with an great 'hammond organ' tune. Sounds a bit like something from an arcade game- but I mean this in a good way!
Get a copy of this album, you won't regret it! It's their best.
