If I could talk with the animals...,

I got this for my pony mad 7 year old to encourage her to read more challenging books. Although the page count looked daunting at first when compared to her school books, she was encouraged by the story.
After a slow start which introduces a nervous Sam on her first horse riding lesson at a new school and the other girls at the riding school, including a bully, it takes an unusual twist with Sam finding out that she can actually talk to the horses. This changes everything and makes Sam gradually more confident and able to compete with the others.
There are some good messages for girls who are less confident and, of course, has lots of ponies in, which is ideal for young girls. The writing seems to be aimed at around the 8-12 mark and my 7 year old did struggle a little with some words, but generally found it easy to read with a little help. That said, all children are different and it will depend on their reading age.
Mulberry and the Summer Show comes highly recommended for young pony fans and is a great, well written uplifting story.
