This review is from: Portico Quartet (Audio CD)
This is one where I wish I'd previewed a few more tracks before downloading it. I was hoping for something along the lines of the Cinematic Orchestra's first two albums, a mix of modern beats and jazz. I like "Ruins", and "City Of Glass" but much of the rest of the album is disjointed and does not work for me, either as jazz or electronica. Too many tracks are marred by arrythmic keyboard arpeggios, and often rhythms that sound as if they belong in a different song. Even though I would not count myself a particular fan of pure jazz, I can't help thinking that this album would have sounded better stripped of its electronic elements. Approach with caution.
