Fascinating individual stories,
This review is from: Liverpool VCs (Hardcover)
Beautifully written with heartfelt, engaging narrative. Each of the men's stories is gripping and skilfully interwoven into the historical context. The book is clearly well-researched and yet written in a way that doesn't overload the dry facts. Each account places the reader in the shoes of the man in question, striking an excellent balance between the story of their own personal lives and circumstances and that of the battles in which they fought. A must for anyone interested in military history, particularly those who want to see through the eyes of those on the ground.

Just to be clear - this is the authors daughter - not exactly an unbiased source. It is good to be proud of family, being up front about it in reviews would be even better, being proud of who you are in relation to the author.

Also, Amazon requires that reviewers disclose if they got the book for free, which is likely in this instance. Or are all his sales to family members?

I paid the sum of £18.99 for the book from my local Waterstones. Probably fair since I still owe me Dad a few hundred quid from my days as a student.
