I was sceptical when I started this book, mostly because it seemed to start a tiny bit slowly,
The books started by describing this 100 year old lady in India and her family who seemed to all want it their own way. However, as soon as we start getting flashbacks and learn about the life back in England many years ago the book really comes into life. Even all the changes between the current time and the past seems to work like a dream, at no point was it frustrating or did not flow.
The more I read, the more I wanted to know.
The book itself is fiction but the author has done research about the past in both India/England. This doesn't mean that everything is absolutely accurate and would actually have happened in real time and I'm sure that there is things in here that are totally impossible to have happened at the time. However, as a story it is lovely, it is a straight forward book,
The book got romantic, sad and joyful moments. I laughed, I cried, I smiled.
I could not put down the book and kept reading to late in the night, even considered missing my stop on the train as I just wanted to read a bit more. So yes, defiantly recommendable in my opinion.
