Good but there is better out there,
This review is from: ABC of Prehospital Emergency Medicine (ABC Series) (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The goal of this book is commendable and its scope ambitious. However, there is a lot of ground to cover and in a couple of hundred pages the depth that the author's can achieve in each topic is slightly limited.
The information on offer is good, very good in fact, and seems to contain the latest developments in this fast evolving field. What is slightly disappointing is the phrase 'beyond the scope of this chapter' that appears a lot. Devoting 2, 3 or 6 pages on complex areas such as burns, extremity trauma, head injury, shock etc just doesn't cut it.
I am perhaps spoilt as I have a copy of the PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support): Trauma Response which is nearly double the size of this book and goes into much greater depth.
Given that these books are selling for roughly the same price on amazon I would direct the potential buyer to the PHTLS book.
The ABC book contains good advice, very good flowcharts and diagrams and is a good read. But, its Achilles heel is its lack of depth and given that there is much better on offer, I am struggling to recommend this book over the others out there.
Good but not fantastic.
