5.0 out of 5 stars The King At His Vocal Peak, 9 Oct 2006

This review is from: Something for Everybody (Audio CD)
Difficult to really sum up this cd. The line-up makes little sense, comprised of songs from the original album issued in 1961 and additionally the out-takes of the year's singles such as 'His Latest Flame', 'Little Sister', 'I Feel So Bad', 'Good Luck Charm' and 'Anything Thats Part of You' - but focusing upon adding the singles has resulted in the exclusion of some lesser known but truly great (and in some cases better) recordings from the same sessions such as 'I Met Her Today' and 'Thats Someone You Never Forget'. This was probably the weakest Elvis album released up to that time in 61, made up of a 'ballads' side and a 'rhythm' side. The ballads are infinitely better, especially the great 'There's Always Me', with the addition of 'Anything Thats Part Of You', we have two tracks worthy of the price on their own. The 'rhythm' songs on the original album are superbly performed by Elvis and his band but the material, frankly, is weak but thankfully, with the exception of Good Luck Charm (a huge global hit but again a weak song which receives a performance it doesnt deserve)the additions rescue the 'rhythm' songs. This CD sums up much of Elvis career: some classic Presley hits, some lesser known brilliant recordings and a load of sub standard songs made to sound infinitely better than they deserve by the vocal genius of Elvis Presley at his very peak.
