5.0 out of 5 stars Tip-Top camera at a knock-down price, 13 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Canon DM-XL1s Professional Mini DV Camcorder - (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Camera)
I bought this mini DV camcorder for a friend who had been lusting after it for some time. ( Of course he paid me for it !!! ).
It was in VG condition, and he's got himself a very good semi pro bit of kit !.

Hi,
We've bought this camera from Amazon but have found it impossible to connect it to anything via firewire. Canon, Maplins, the Camera Exchange, PC World etc. all say that firewire is now obsolete and there is no other way to connect it to a PC. Canon DM-XL1s Professional Mini DV Camcorder. We bought a Dazzle but Canon say there aren't any drivers available for this camera. At present, we're really disappointed but going to have to return it. If anyone has any ideas, we'd be very grateful.

Hi...Sorry to hear you'r having problems re a PC connection for the Canon DM-XL1s. I bought this camera off the Internet, for a friend who does not own a computer. He edits on a basic non digital set up, and was "over the moon" with the results he was getting. I'd suggest Googling your requirement, ( "Firewire connection for Canon DM-XL1s wanted" ), and hopefully this will sort things out for you. This is a highly specified bit of kit,and there simply has to be enthusiasts for this model who can help. Good Luck.

Hi Sue.
I don't know if you've returned your Canon DM-XL1s yet,..but I see Amazon have the firewire cable you require.
It is sold by AAA Productions and costs £5.99.
Go on to the Amazon site,..type in "Firewire Cable for Canon DM-XL1s."
If they can't supply,..Google this description, (I'm pretty confident you'll get this item ).
Good Luck.
George

Hi George,

Thanks for your suggestion but we had a firewire that fitted the camera. The problem was finding something to connect the firewire to, and everyone says that this type of connection is now obsolete, so we'd have to buy a very old camcorder or laptop with both a firewire input that could be output in some other way. We've just returned the camera and it looks like we need to get something a bit more up-to-date. Thanks again,
Sue
