chill-out - the next generation,
This review is from: Acoustic Chill (Audio CD)
In the last couple of years, chill-out, it seems has become big business. Every week another chill-out compilation appears in the shops promising us 'blissed-out grooves' or something similar and containing at least 15 songs that can be found on all the other standard chill-out fodder. How refreshing it is then that Chris Coco has taken the time to put together a compilation that dares to be different and is, quite simply, light years ahead of the competition.
As Chris himself explains on his website: "Acoustic Chill is more of a feeling than a sound. It reflects the attitude of a whole bunch of bands and producers who are augmenting their computer and electronically generated sounds with real live acoustic instruments; from old fashioned wooden guitars to pianos to little shaking things with beads inside. We're mixing those sounds with some beautiful, sonically and emotionally raw songs from the new acoustic movement to create a stunning, charged collection of rare beauty that will be perfect for all strains of late night entertainment as well as that special Sunday morning moment."
And who am I to argue with 29 tracks of breathtaking quality spread over two cd's, both almost seventy minutes long. Stand out tracks are too numerous to mention: from the simple, yet stunning beautiful crazy to the latin-tinged bebel gilberto to the gorgeous, ambient soundscapes of blueprint's freedub, this album caters for the discerning chiller's every need.
Why waste your money on 'Ibiza Chill Out 8' when you could be spending it on this instead?
Completely, and absolutely, essential.
