Excellent - well worth reading,
This review is from: The Watermen (Hardcover)
The cover has a quote 'first-rate historical thriller' and just for once, the publishers have it right. I enjoyed this book very much. It's well written with great atmosphere of the Pool of London in 1798, the fog, the smells, the nefarious characters, the poor and maltreated and the fledgeling River Police. I wouldn't say it was flawless but as a first novel I feel it has a lot of promise. Too often, publishers say a novel is 'first in a series' and I groan but this time it's warranted and I will look out for the next instalment. I recommend it. Give it a go - I doubt you'll be disappointed.
