D.J. Connell's very funny tale of Julian Corkle growing up in Tasmania will keep you turning the pages in a matter of hours and minutes rather than days and days. Julian Corkle has a slightly warped version of reality and a quirky take on right and wrong...
The book made me laugh out loud (very unusual for me), especially in his early days of discovering his sexuality with a very supportive mum, an insensitive dad and a bully of a brother... Julian tells his tale from school days to early adult hood and my only criticism is that the book took a bit of a 'dip' in the middle but quickly picked up again as Julian finally found his feet in a job at the local hair salon. This made me think perhaps D.J. Connell could have made two volumes out of Julian's escapades.
Regardless, it's a very easy/light read that will make you smile. Enjoy.
