Can I give this 6 stars?,
This review is from: Blues Funeral (Audio CD)
Seven years since his last solo effort, with plenty of going on in between, but this album pretty much picks up where Bubblegum left off...only better still, and with the odd change of direction. Who would have though Lanegan could make an ironic disco song...a damn good one at that? Though its the slower darker sounds of phantasmagoria blues and Bleeding muddy waters where for me Lanegan excels (though being a Nick Cave addict explains that). From the opening bars of the gravedigger's song through to the last note this album is as good as it gets. I'll trot out the old line 'an early contender for album of the year'...well.. because its an early contender for album of the year. I'd be kind of depressed if I was about to release an album and heard this. In fact I'd shelve it.
Brilliant, brilliant stuff!
