We had real problems with this product...,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: York X101 Elliptical (Sports)First of all, let me state that I am a regular and devoted shopper at Amazon and have used them without any problems for years.
Unfortuately, we found with this purchase that there is a huge difference between buying simple things like CDs, books, small electrical items off Amazon and large, heavy, self-assembly exercise equipment. It just didn't work out well at all.
The item was delivered promptly, but straight away my suspicions were aroused by a box that looked like it had been opened before and appeared rather scuffed and untidy. The thick copper staples that normally require a screwdriver to remove just came away in my fingers.
Once we started to assemble the cross trainer, we found that the tension cable which connects the control on the front of the machine to the flywheel was faulty and couldn't be installed.
It was then that the shortcomings of dealing with Amazon became apparent. There was no one to talk to about the problem except for York's customer service department - and they just assume that there's nothing wrong with their equipment and you must be at fault.
After much unhelpful communication with York, we sent the cross trainer back to Amazon and they delivered a replacement - same shabby box, same problem. This time we have asked for a refund and ordered another machine from an online retailer, Fitness Superstore, who specialise in fitness equipment. They have a dedicated helpdesk and will send someone out if you have difficulty with assembly.
I'm sure that if the York X101 is delivered fault-free it would be a good product, so a star-rating is irrelevant for this review. My advice, however, for anyone considering buying a heavy-duty piece of equipment like this, requiring quite an arduous assembly process, is to go to a specialist retailer...
...meanwhile, I'll keep ordering my CDs from Amazon!

Just received my order and am having the exact same problem. Box looked like it had already been opened... and the tension cable is faulty. Wondering if Amazon are sending returned faulty goods out to customers...
