Nervous upgrade to Win XP,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (Full Version) (CD-ROM)
Needed to upgrade from Win XP did all my research but still not 100% sure this was the right one as there seems so many versions available. Took the plunge backed up my files to a removable disc and USB memory stick and decided to do the full clean install ie all files sectors on my C: drive were erased. This was to get rid of all the junk and bits of old files left behind from previous downloads thus starting effectively with a brand new computer. Installation was easy and worked well. I was able to set up but had to reload drivers from discs to get my speakers, printer, working again. Also I had issues loading from my remote disc which had a security block due to administrator rights as my computer was now known as something different. I managed to work around this, and most of the drivers were found and re-loaded. My graphics card is old and although I visited the manufacturers web site they do not produce a driver to work with Win 8.1 so I can only use a stock Microsoft version which is ok but lacks the clarity I would like. Some say what's the point of Win 8.1 if you haven't got a touch screen. True but I still have the option to upgrade the screen and graphics card and I will continue to get support and updates from Microsoft against hackers etc.
