Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Rain Men: Madness of Cricket (Paperback)
The last time I bought a book on 'laughability' described on the dust jacket it was Simon Winder's 'Germanania' and you can read my review of that book.
This time, I bought a book (Rain Men) based on review feedback.
All the right signs were there, I am old enough to recall many of the club and international cricketing moments described, I like cricket and indeed Tom Sharpe, especially in 'Ancestral Vices' had made me laugh out loud so much that it caused a degree of tut tutting on a holiday coach trip.
Rain Men raised a smile from time to time, but nothing more than that, it simply tried to be too funny sentence after sentence and, towards the end, I got so fed up with it that I simply skim read to the end, hoping and praying that all the jolly japes and hoots described by other reviews would reveal themselves to me - sadly they did not.
